Reverend Monsignor Simon Assamoah, Vicar General of the Wiawso Catholic Diocese and the Parish Priest of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Enchi has donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to support the fight against the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.
The items, comprising digital infrared thermometers, Veronica buckets with wooden stands, basins, dustbins, alcohol-based hand sanitizers, liquid soaps, tissue papers and face masks were donated to the Ghana Health Service, Ghana Police
Service, Traditional authority and Ghana Private Road Transport Union in Aowin Municipality of the Western North Region.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after the presentation, Monsignor Assamoah said the goodwill was a way of contributing his quota to prevent the spread of the disease within the Municipality.
He indicated that although the health officials have not recorded any case in the Municipality, they needed to institute the necessary measures to ensure the safety of the citizens.
"The disease has affected a lot of countries globally but because of the procedures the government has presented, it has not worsened in Ghana. The Government has helped but many organizations and philanthropists need to contribute their
quota to combat the ailment" he stressed.
Monsignor Assamoah expressed the hope that the donation would go a long way to help the beneficiaries and enable them maintain a healthy society.
Receiving the items on behalf of the various institutions, Mr Samuel Adu Gyamfi, Municipal Chief Executive praised Monsignor Assamoah for his unceasing generosity to the residents of Aowin. He advised the populace to observe all the preventive measures such as good hand washing to avoid been infected with COVID-19.
Miss Rita Attah Owusu, Municipal Health Director of Aowin together with the Medical Superintendent in charge of Enchi Government hospital, Dr Jonathan Mensah, thanked the Vicar General for the benevolence and pledged to utilize the items for the intended purpose.
They appealed for more of such support to help fight the pandemic in Aowin and the country at large.
The Divisional Commander of Enchi, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Henry Basiri Bachor, also assured the donor that the items would be distributed to the various police post within his operational areas to protect both officers and residents from the virus.
