Former President John Dramani Mahama, Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), on Monday paid a courtesy call on Mr. Henry Ametefe, Volta Regional Chairman of the Party at his residence in Ho to console him on the demise of his wife, Victoria Ametefe.
He was accompanied by Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, National Chairman, Mr Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary, and Dr Hannah Bissiw, National Women Organiser of the Party.
The Former President said the sudden departure of the Regional Chairman's wife remained a shock to the Party, and offered his condolences.
"We know how painful it is. Words cannot heal you. We can only solidarise with you and keep you in company to ease the pain. The Party is with you. The funeral is for all of us," he said.
Mr Nketia said the visit was to see "our brother and assure him that we are with him," and promised to help organise a befitting funeral for the Chairman's late wife.
Mr Samuel Dzamesi, on behalf of the bereaved family, expressed gratitude to the Former President and his entourage for the support, and said he was impressed with the "spirit of unity and solidarity" being shown by the Party.
He said a burial service would be held for the late Mrs Ametefe at the Ho Jubilee Park, from where the body would be conveyed to Ave-Dakpa in the Akatsi North District for burial.
President Mahama signed a book of condolence.
