As part of President Nana Akufo-Addo's decision to make Accra the cleanest city in Africa by 2020, the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly (KoKMA) has commissioned a set of brand new mini waste vehicles and a drain cleansing team at the Freedom and Justice Park at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.

The drain cleansing team he noted, will be in charge of ensuring that the drains in the various electoral areas in the municipality are constantly cleaned to improve sanitation, health and prevent flooding. He said more workers such as beach cleaners, sweepers and drivers will be recruited for the borla taxis , combustion trucks and mini waste vehicles.
He urged the workers to ensure that the eight waste vehicles and two compact trucks donated by Zoomlion are wellmaintained.
Mr Victor Acquaye, the Municipal Environment and Health Officer (MEHO) said that sanitation can be harnessed with established infrastructure, logistics and human power. He said that the Assembly has found it necessary to promote the President's Clean Accra agenda hence the procurement of the vehicles.
Mr Acquaye stated that the vehicles have been numbered and branded to ensure they are used for their intended purposes and pledged to have the choked drains regularly desilted.
The Municipal Co-ordinating Director,Mr Benard Yingura emphasized KoKMA's readiness to take sanitation to another level and charged the officers to monitor their teams to ensure they are working . He urged them not to leave the waste vehicles idle saying "for the period these vehicles are to be out there, officers will be stationed around to ensure work is being done".
He also assured the workers that their incentives will always be provided on a timely basis.
