The two day event was to review the performance of the sector and address the bottlenecks hindering the advancement of Ghana's tourism, arts and culture sector.

The workshop was an annual assessment by Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies to appreciate the progress and status of their Sector Ministry and to also address challenges.

Mrs Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, urged the heads of institutions under the Ministry to collaborate and make a positive impact on the country's tourism, arts and culture sector.

She said her core mandate is to see to the realization of the passage of the Creative Arts Bill, which would lead to the establishment of the Creative Arts Fund; it is currently before Parliament in its amendment stage.

She said the regional theatres would also see some major facelift  adding that the Koforidua and Kumasi theatres has seen some significant transformation and the same process would be replicated in other theatres the country.

On the music industry, she said she was working for the practitioners in the Ghana's music industry to have value in monetizing their music creativities by making the Copy Right courts come into fruition.

Dr Ziblim Iddi Barri, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, urged the Agency heads under the Ministry to support the efforts of the Minister, saying this would further re-position the Ministry in its transformational agenda.

Dr Jacob Doodu, MoTAC World Bank Project Coordinator, said the GHC 40 million grant facility extended to the country's tourism sector was to help transform the sector by upgrading the existing tourism facilities across the country.

He said the project was anchored on four components comprising:  strengthening tourism enabling environment, developing tourism sites and destinations; tourism enterprise support programme and project management component.

Mr Akwesi Agyemang, Chief Executive Officer, Ghana Tourism Authority, said there is the need for all the Agency Heads of the Ministry to meet with the Finance Minister to deliberate on budgetary allocations.

At the event, 11 Heads of Agencies of the Ministry took turns to deliver their presentation on their institutions progress and status.
