Q&A
When is the next Ascent??
The next Ascent will be our 5th edition and the first one of 2019 so we are very excited. It will be on the 27th April 2019.
What time does it start and where is it located??
The first race takes place at 6.30am and there is a second race at 7.30am.
The Ascent takes place at the Teshie Military Academy which is on the Teshie Road, next to the Kofi Annan Centre.
What can people expect on the day??
Each participant signs in, then we begin with a group warm up before each race. After that we line up at the start line and set off!! The course averagely takes about an hour to complete.
The route is 5km with over 25 different obstacles to get through. Things like hurdles, balance beams, water slides, military crawls, cargo nets and wall climbs are just some of the exciting obstacles you will face. There is help along the way and at every obstacle if you need it, so no need to worry about fitness level or ability!!
What happens after the race??
After completing the race (everyone completes it!) you receive your medal and can browse through vendors selling food and products that may be of interest.
You can also enter mini fitness challenges (like push ups, squats etc) that take place throughout the morning… if you still have energy!
The top 10 male and top 10 females from the 6.30am obstacle course race take place in a 1km obstacle head to head race which is a great spectacle for the rest of us!
Then the top 3 males and top 3 females receive their trophies and prizes!
The event is normally winding down by 10.30 - 11am.
What type of people normally attend and how many on average??
We call our participants Ascenders! They range in age from 18 all the way to 70+years old! They are fun loving people looking to do something fun on a Saturday morning which also benefits their health. There are equal numbers of males and females and vary in fitness level…some coming to compete for prizes and some just coming with friends for a refreshing experience.
We regularly have over 300 people attending.
Is it a competition or just for fun??
Well its both! The 6.30am race is more competitive and you are eligible for the prizes if you come top 10 in this race.
And the 7.30am race is the fun run, which comprises of people who are there to have fun….maybe a group of friends, family, corporate team or just you and your buddy.
You choose which race you are taking part in when you register and will be given the corresponding wristband when you make payment.
Will you have any more events this year??
Yes we have events planned for 5th October 2019 (which will have a 10km option)
and 7th December 2019 (our night time event and party!)
(October and December dates subject to change).
All Ascent events will be different this year…so don’t miss out on any!
