The meeting, attended by engineers, architects and building contractors, is in preparation towards the establishment of a mandatory certification and conformity assessment scheme for precast concrete products for the building and construction sector.

Addressing the stakeholders, Prof. Alex Dodoo, the Director-General of GSA, indicated that the only way to bring sanity in the built industry is to meet various stakeholders to deliberate on key issues affecting the industry and come out with concrete solutions to address such problems to move the country forward.

"GSA has a key role to play. The only way we can get to where Ghana wants to go is to talk to each other and see the way forward. Solutions should not be a GSA solution but what will work for Ghana," he said.

He announced that the GSA would soon kick-start the distribution of the Ghana Building Code to all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) across the country, whose implementation would ensure adequate protection to public health and safety in the building and construction industry.

The stakeholders called on the GSA to ensure that standards in the sector were brought to the basic understanding of every citizen.

Others also called for the swift implementation of the Building Code in order to protect public safety.

GSA's mission is to contribute towards the growth of industry, protect consumers and facilitate trade through standards, metrology and conformity assessment.
