Professor Eric Danquah, Founding Director, West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI), University of Ghana, has been appointed to serve as a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Standing Advisory Group for Nuclear Applications (SAGNA).
Prof Danquah, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra, said this was communicated to him by Dr Yukiya Amano, the Director-General of the IAEA.
The SAGNA provides advice to the Director-General on the Agency's activities in the application of nuclear techniques carried out within the programmes of the Department of Nuclear Science and Applications.
SAGNA is made up of about 25 members, appointed by the Director-General and members are senior experts in the area of nuclear sciences and applications; drawn from research and technological centres, academic institutions and the nuclear industry.
