Professor Imoro Braimah, Provost of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, said the nation was endowed with all the requisite natural and human resources needed to transform the sector.

 “Ghana could be a net exporter of food if we invest in agro-based ventures intertwined with science and technology to bring prosperity to the people,” he noted. Prof. Braimah said the nation ought to work towards achieving food sufficiency, saying, the agricultural sector had the potential to alleviate poverty amongst the youth if they were provided with assistance to venture into it.

The ‘Food Festival Fair’ was organized jointly under the auspices of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, as well as College of Science.   “Promoting our Culture, our Food and the Science,” was the theme.

On display at the Fair were a variety of indigenous and local dishes, organic vegetables, processed fruit juice and fruits in their natural state.  The Crops Research Institute of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research took advantage of the event to showcase some of their crop varieties, including maize and rice.

Prof. Braimah said it was expected of stakeholders to build the necessary synergy as they worked to find solutions to challenges inhibiting sustainable growth of the agricultural sector.

Ms. Gloria Gambrah, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Oforikrom, gave the assurance that the government would continue to liaise with the academia in enhancing cutting-edge research and innovations to transform the agro-based sector.
