Mr Kofi Ofori, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), said this during an inspection tour of some roads and drains in the municipality.

The GHC 5,599,328.36 project being executed by Legcon Ltd, roads and civil works contractors, involves roads and drains at Tweneboa, Esuapim, Lotus, Cup Plant, Jato streets and Maclean Avenue have to be completed within 12 months.

Mr Ofori commended Mr Justice Joe Appiah, immediate past Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma North Constituency for his efforts to ensure that the execution of the project.

He said even though Mr Appiah started lobbying for the projects whilst a Member of Parliament and did not succeed, he did not relent when out of Parliament, but continued to persist till approval was given and the projects awarded on contract.

The former MP, who was present during the tour said, even though he is out of parliament, he continued the lobbying process to help ameliorate the sufferings of motorists in the area.

Mr Appiah said Ablekuma North is a low-lying area and most areas get flooded anytime there was a downpour, hence the need to re-engineer most drains in the constituency.

The MCE said additional 8.30 kilometres of roads in other parts had been awarded on contract for rehabilitation.

He said: “First, Second, Third Avenues, Avenue Link, Duet Loop and Mallam Issah street totalling another 2.50 kilometres were currently under construction”.

Mr Ofori said it is the aim of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government under Nana Akuffo-Addo to ensure that the road network across the length and breadth of the country is improved to reduce road traffic accidents.
