The move is to supplement the government’s policy of planting for food and jobs as well as the Ghana Beyond Aid Agenda.

 Already, he has over the past years successfully piloted a number of home-grown climate-smart agricultural technologies on a 10-acre farm at Gomoa Odembo in the Central Region.

Apostle Safo disclosed this to a two-member delegation made up of Professor Kwabina Frimpong-Boateng, Minister of Environment Science Technology and Innovation, and Mr Oliver Boakye, Special Advisor to the Ministry during a visit to the farm.

Aside from familiarizing themselves with the many home-grown innovations, in the area of agriculture, engineering, technology, the visit was to identify and formally discuss how the government could partner to expand and commercialized some of his inventions.

Apostle Safo said the technologies had been used to cultivate different organic indigenous traditional crop and spice varieties in food classifications including fruits, vegetables, tubers, aromatic spices that were nearly going extinct due to deforestation and modernity.

“One of my unique methods of planting yam and plantain is that I dig up to about 50 centimetres deep and first fill in my organic fertilizer before I plant. This helps the crop to grow well and get the needed space and fertility to attain maximum yield,” he explained.

Apostle Safo observed that many of the traditional plants, which were highly nutritious, were extinction and that the new farm be use to cultivate the indigenous crops for Ghanaian consumption.

Prof. Frimpong Boateng applauded the exploits of Apostle Safo and said due to modernity most children do not know the majority of the local foods and that the initiative would help restore its past glory.

He remarked that the various preservation methods when adopted would help the country to adequately withstand the shocks of climate change. The Minister said as part of the plans to enable the country to fully benefit from the agricultural technologies of Apostle Safo, the government would connect the agricultural institutions to learn some of the best practices.
