He said: “As far as we live as humans we would continue to generate waste and when it comes to the issue of sanitation it is our responsibility of making sure that we clean the mess we have created. This would help us prevent diseases like cholera and typhoid.”

Mr Acheampong made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency during the production of a television documentary on “The Clean Ghana Challenge 2018” with the theme: “Don’t Waste the Waste” in Accra, to educate Ghanaians on the sanitation menace in the country.

He said the Challenge 2018 is a competition with six categories, where musicians, poets, comedians, writers and cartoonists would use their messages and creative talents to educate the citizenry on good sanitation.

Mr Acheampong said the main mission and vision of the Clean Ghana Action Ambassadors is to let Ghanaians become conscious of sanitation issues especially on open defecation, refuse disposal, management and issues relating to safe drinking water.

He said their mission was geared towards the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 6), and that, they hope to organise programmes to educate the public, by bringing the Clean Ghana Challenge to create awareness on proper sanitation.

The Director said the final event dubbed: “The Clean Ghana Concert”, would be in March, next year, at the National Theatre, where the contestant would showcase their initiatives to Ghanaians.

Mr Acheampong said the content of their entries would solely be on good sanitation, and that, the first three winners would be given awards and citations. He said the event would attract stakeholders like the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources and others.
