The Diaso Area Programmes (AP) Office of World Vision International in Ghana (WVI-Ghana), has commissioned a US$11,000.00 solar powered water facility at Jameso-Nkwanta in the Upper Denkyira West District.
The water facility funded by WVG, is installed on the school compound shared by the Jameso-Nkwanta Anglican Basic School and the District Assembly Basic School, to solve a perennial water problem.
The facility with the capacity to produce about 433.33 litres a day, has been hailed by students of the school and teachers living in nearby quarters, as a big relief, since school children lose some contact hours commuting about five kilometres to water sources, to access drinking water, while classes were in session.
Mr. Irvine Aboagye, the Diaso AP Manager speaking at the commissioning of the water facility, said the initiative was to promote the wellbeing of the school children, whiles boosting their academic performances, which was negatively affected by the use of contact hours to look for potable water.
The project will be monitored in collaboration with the project partner – Project Maji.
Mr. Isaac Ayariga, the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) officer of the Diaso AP, urged the community and school water management committees to see to it that the water facility was well managed and sustained.
He urged the community members to stay away from the usage of the facility since it was meant to serve the school children and teachers of the schools only.
Mr. Ayariga also advised the community and school authorities to be a good custodian of the facility and also urged them to coordinate efforts in generating funds to maintain and sustain the facility.
Nana Kwabena Amponsah, the Abusuapanin of the Jameso-Nkwanta Traditional Area, thanked WVI-Ghana for the facility and urged the school authorities, pupils and community members to cooperate in prolonging the lifespan of the facility.
