Mr Bernard Adjei, Acting General Secretary of PSWU, said government needed to put more investments in the health, education, water and sanitation, energy, transportation and housing sectors to help improve on quality of services to the people.

Addressing a national capacity building workshop for the youth and women’s committees in Kumasi, he said, quality public services are vital to improve the living conditions of the people.

The workshop was attended by 150 youth committee members and 50 women from all the regions in the country.It was aimed at educating them on the Union’s structures, provide them with leadership and effective negotiations skills and keep them abreast with the basic issues affecting workers in Ghana.

Mr Adjei said there is the need for leaders of the Union at all levels to have a united front and build solid structures so as to be able to negotiate for better working conditions for members.

They must be committed to the course of the Union and support the call for quality public service delivery at all levels.

Mr Adjei warned against multiplicity and fragmentation of Unions adding that this has had adverse effect on the relations between the unions and government.Mr John Sampah, Acting Deputy General Secretary of the Union, also called for a strong union to be able to achieve their objectives of promoting, protecting members’ economic and social interests.

He said unions are very important and there is the need for a well-organized union to be able to make effective opinions and negotiations for its members.Madam Peal Hilda Addo, National Chairperson, Women’s Committee, urged the women to be more involved in decision making, community development and social auditing issues that affected them in their localities.

Mr John Doe, National Youth Committee Chairperson, advised the participants to share the knowledge they had acquired with their colleagues at their various places of work.
