The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has sympathised with the students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KUNST) who were manhandled and injured by security officers and police.
“We have had cause in the past as an association, to condemn persons who attack citizens or persons irrespective of the reason and we consequently restate our condemnation issue on June 29 and July 21, respectively.
These were contained in a release signed by Mr Anthony Forson Junior and Mr Yaw Acheampong Boafo, GBA’s National President and National Secretary, and copied the Ghana News Agency.
The Bar also condemned the actions of the students which culminated into the destruction of property which led to the closure of the University.
Members of the Association urged the students to pursue their ambitions and education without violating the law.
It said that while they appreciate government’s plans to ensure tranquillity and congenial atmosphere on campus to enhance the pursuit of education, the GBA is cautioning all to abide by the law.
The release called on government to resolve the impasse at the University within the confines of the law and in accordance with statues of KNUST.
It also called on the students to refrain from acts of vandalism in the future, or advising security agencies to all the time maintain peace without infringing on the fundamental human right of Ghanaians and ensure that the rule of law prevailed.
