Some members of the public and representatives of civil society organizations in Tamale Metropolis joined the campaign walk from the Afa Ajura Mosque at Sakasaka through Aboabo and ended at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

The event, which was dubbed: "BCI walk for the cure 2018," was sponsored by Delta Airlines.

After the walk, participants were screened to know their breast cancer status. 

Dr Beatrice Wiafi Addai, President of BCI and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Peace and Love Hospital, who addressed the participants after the walk, expressed the need for all especially women to take issues of breast cancer seriously, since it was the leading cause of deaths among women worldwide and every woman was at risk of developing it.

Dr Wiafi Addai said the campaign walk was demand driven in the north, since breast cancer cases were predominant in the rural areas where some people had wrong myths and misconceptions about its causes and treatment.

She reiterated that breast cancer was curable advising all especially women to visit health facilities for regular check-up for early treatment.   She urged stakeholders and the media to successfully sustain and widely spread the campaign on breast cancer in the northern sector of the country.

Madam Otiko Afisa Djaba, a former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, advised all including children to go for medical screening at early stages in the hospital for early detection of breast cancer to curb its spread in the human body.

Madam Viki Vaughan-Williams, a staff of Delta Airlines, assured of the Airlines continued commitment to raising awareness on the diseases, and funds for breast cancer research around the world to help fight the disease.
