The Head of Programs of STAR-Ghana, Mrs Teiko Sabah says important contributions made by participants in the Daily Graphic/STAR-Ghana National Dialogue on Education are proof that everyone is passionate about the future of Ghana.

In an opening address at the fifth in the series of the Daily Graphic/STAR-Ghana National Dialogue on Education held on Wednesday, September 5 in Accra, Mrs Teiko said important contributions about the Free SHS policy made during the engagements would be combined into a document and presented to the Education Ministry.

She said the dialogues are part of the effort to improve the Free Senior High School Programme.

"So far the engagements have been passionate... This concerns the future generation and what you get is a lot of positives but we also want to enrich the system," Mrs Sabah said.

"We are happy that education is now inclusive, everybody can get access but how do you ensure that quality is sustained. We are getting views from parents, PTA Chairmen, retired educationists and everybody is passionate about the future of Ghana".

A Research Officer of the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD), Mrs Rhoda Osei-Afful added that the dialogues had exposed a lot of challenges that are likely to trouble the Free SHS Policy this academic year.

Mrs Osei-Afful said: "We have been made are of some of the challenges that have come aboutas a result of the implementation of this noble policy which has been our infrastructure deficit as a country.

"Now from what we hear, government thinks that it is their turn to address these issues about infrastructure and the double track policy is something that they think can help go about this".

She said the CDD was delighted to partner STAR-Ghana on a pertinent issue such as education.

Daily Graphic/STAR-Ghana Dialogue on Education

The dialogue held in Kumasi was on the theme, “Exploring Partnerships with the Private Schools for a Sustainable Free Senior High School (FSHS) Education".

It was the fifth in the series organized by the Daily Graphic in partnership with STAR-Ghana and support from the Centre for Democratic Development.

Similar engagements with stakeholders in the education sector have already been held in Accra, Takoradi (August 17), Cape Coast (August 23) and Tamale (August 30).

Speakers on the panel included: Mr Adieu Asenso, Regional Chairman, Conference of Heads of Private Schools, Mr Charles Tsegah, Former Director-General of RED, Dr Faith Ben-Daniels, Head of Department, Education Leadership, University of Education-Kumasi Campus and Dr Solomon Kwarteng Fokuoh, Deputy Director, Institute of Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development, University of Education-Kumasi Campus.
