Mrs Portia Adu - Mensah the Coordinator for Ghana Reduce in Our Carbon (GROC) the local chapter of 350.org a USA based organisation has advocated the usage of renewable energies as a more sustainable way of accessing electricity.
The advocacy was centred on renewable energy which is a source of energy that is able to replenish itself such as the sun, water (hydro) and biomass. Mrs Adu - Mensah who made the call at a durbar held at Akim Awisa as part of activities of the Odwira festival introduced to the members in the community, some renewable energy products like solar power bank for phones charging, solar torch light, solar and solar bulbs .
GROC was formed in Accra, Ghana in 2013 by a group of youth passionate about environmental sustainability and said, it aims at mobilising and empowering young people to actively champion the need to reduce our carbon emission and promote renewable energy systems as a way of combating climate change.
Mrs Adu - Mensah and her team donated a number of solar bulbs to chief and elders of Akim Awisa and the community assured their patronage to the renewable energy products when the need arises.
