Mr Shi Ting Wang, the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana has donated items worth millions of Ghana Cedis to three Junior High Schools (JHS) at Akim Awisa in the Birim South District of the Eastern Region.
The items were 10 desktop computers and accessories, 10 printers, 500 mathematical sets, exercise books, and 50 footballs each and basketballs to be distributed among Awisa Methodist JHS, Presby JHS and the Salvation Army JHS.
Mr Ting Wang, speaking at a durbar for the presentation said the China Government adhered to people-centred development by promoting “all-round development,” hence the donation to enhance the education of the children.
He mentioned Chinese Government’s support to the Kpong Water expansion project, the rehabilitation of Kotokuraba Market in Cape Coast, and the construction of 1,000 boreholes in six regions of the country, among others.
Mr Ting Wang assured the people of Akim Awisa of the renovation of the Methodist Basic School, which was in a deplorable state and also rehabilitated the compound after having discussion with his government.
Nana Ama Afari, the Birim South District Director of Education who received the items expressed gratitude to the Ambassador and his Government for the gesture and said the donation would go a long way to improve the knowledge of the students in their academic work and encourage sports activities in the schools.
Nana Kwarteng Karikari III, the Chief of Akim Awisa said the area was naturally blessed with bamboo tress and that they would welcome the Chinese cooperationto set up a factory to develop them and appealed to the Ambassador and his government to consider university graduates from the area on the China’s educational scholarship scheme for them to further their studies.
