Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) have been cautioned over delays in disbursement of the share of District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) allocated for people with disabilities.
Oboaman Bofotia Boamposem II, the Krontrihene of Sunyani Traditional Area, said everybody was a potential for disability hence the need to facilitate speedy disbursement of the fund.
He said disability was not inability and that posterity would not spare managers of the fund if they failed to do due diligence towards prompt release of fund.
Disability, Oboaman Boamposem II added had no social class, saying it would be ungrateful if society neglected the social needs for people of forms of disability.
The Krontrihene was speaking at the launch of a project aimed at facilitating fair disbursement of the three percent District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) allocated to persons with disabilities in Sunyani.
It was organised by the Ghana Society for the Physically Challenged (GSPD) and attended by members of the Associations for the Deaf, Albinism, Blind and the Mental Health Society of Ghana.
Titled "corruption free administration and allocation of three percent DACF for persons with disabilities", the 12-month project is being funded by STAR Ghana and implemented by MIHOSO International Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation.
Oboaman Boamposem II noted that it was not the desire and fault of anybody to be disabled, adding that posterity would not spare "us if we deny them their rights and privileges in society".
Mr Pontius Ninwiri, the Project Officer of MIHOSO, said the project would make significant impact if members of the GSFD held the MMDAs accountable.
He said the project expected members of the GSFD to develop interest and actively participate and make contributions to decision making at the local levels.
Madam Joyce Gyamfi, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Chairperson of the GSFD, expressed appreciation to STAR Ghana and MIHOSO saying the project was a laudable one that would help overcome challenges confronting the society in demanding the disbursement of the fund.
In a speech read on his behalf, Mr Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, said the government was aware of the challenges that faced people with disabilities and was working hard to ensure that their plight were alleviated to make life comfortable for them.
