He was speaking at the inauguration of the Seth Kamens Science Laboratory for the school here.

The GHS 42,754 laboratory which was named after the first-ever Peace Corps Volunteer in Ziavi was realised through funds from the Peace Corps Small Grant Program.

Togbe Ayim said that the Ziavi community through self-help put up the 18-unit the school block with two hostels, adding that  ZISTECH which was established four years ago now had an enrolment of 70.

After such a monumental achievement by the community in aid of education, he said that it was only proper for government to step in and take over the school and pay the teachers their salaries for the efficient administration of the institution which was already on record for its sterling academic performance.

“Such a move by government will definitely be a step in the right direction and enhance government’s Free SHS programme as well as expand ZISTECH,”  Togbe Ayim said.

He paid glowing tribute to the Peace Corps volunteer, whose is known in Ziavi as Kofi and said that by his sacrifice and love for the community, he had become an integral part of history of Ziavi.

Earlier, the headmistress, Miss Stella Afesogbor said that the volunteer’s achievements for ZISTECH would benefit generations yet unborn.

On his part, Mr Kamens said that the he was overwhelmed by the love and communal spirit of the people of Ziavi and also the dedication of duty by the staff of the school.

A prominent citizen of Ziavi, Dr Kofi Debrah who chaired the function entreated the students to study diligently towards a bright future and also urged the people to back their communal spirit with the culture of punctuality.
