Three factories are to be established in the Asuogyaman District under the government’s One District One Factory (1D1F) policy. They would be into paint production, poultry, piggery and pork processing and are going to be sited at Mpakadan, Adjena and Nkwakubew.
Mr. Samuel Kwame Agyekum, the District Chief Executive (DCE), told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that between them they would provide 2,000 direct jobs.
He said a lot of work - preparation had been done and would be taking off soon.
The expectation was that there would lead to massive increase in the local production of poultry products to help significantly reduce the importation of frozen chicken. Mr. Agyekum added that as part of measures to woo more businesses to establish in the area, three major economic roads there had been awarded on contract for rehabilitation.
These are Asikuma-Junction-Boso, Akosombo-Marine-Jekiti and Apegusu-Mpakadan roads.
He said the assembly was also looking for investors, to add value to fish, cassava and maize, produced in large quantities by the people. He advised the youth to remain patient as the government worked hard to build a more robust and resilient economy that would create sustainable jobs for everybody.
Mr. Daniel Wiafe-Yeboah, Project Leader, Ghanaian Youth In Poultry Production Limited (GYIP), the company undertaking the poultry project, said it would have three sites – a slaughter plant, feed mill and out-grower farm with capacity for 50,000 birds at Adjena.
Another out-grower farm on a six acre-land at Cartepillarso would also have a capacity for 50,000 birds. A breeder and hatchery would be located at Anyaase. He said the factory would provide about 1,000 maize farmers with ready market for their produce as maize would be needed to feed the birds.
For a start, they would be supplying 10,000 birds every week to the local market and this would be increased to 24,000 and then to 48,000.
