In excess of 500 streets are expected to be named in the Obuasi Municipality under the phase two of the streets naming project, the Municipal Physical Planning officer, Miss Agnes Amoah, has announced.
She said 11,000 properties in 20 communities including Ridge, Bogobiri, Gausu Extension and Abompekrom would also be covered. This phase of the project started in 2014 but had to be halted because of financial challenges.
Miss Amoah said the municipal assembly was now receiving technical and financial support from the German Development Agency – GIZ. The phase one was carried out between 2010 and 2011, and streets in the Obuasi Central Area - Antobuasi, New Suta, Bediaso and Obuasi Zongo were given names.
She pointed out that the exercise was capital intensive and that it required more funds for its successful implementation. Miss Amoah said on completion it would help to allow for quicker response to emergencies by service providers - fire and ambulance services.
It would also provide the assembly with the revenue tools to substantially increase its internally generated revenue performance, she added.
