Abenaso, a farming community in the Kwaebibirem Municipality has raised GHC 20,000.00 to support a water project government is undertaking in their community.
While the government will drill a borehole, connect it to an overhead tank and provide solar power generating facility, the community is expected to contribute towards distribution of the water to all parts of the township.
The people will also offer communal labour to lay the pipe lines to connect the water to their homes.
Speaking at the fund-raising durbar, Nana Daniel Appiah, an Assembly Member of the Municipal Assembly, who represented both the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Seth Antwi Bosiako and the Member of Parliament for Kade, Mr. Kwabena Ohemeng Tinyase, praised the people for their initiative, which he described as commendable and worthy of emulation.
He said work on the project would be started without delay and completed by December this year.
Nana Appiah said three other communities in the area, Asuom Beposo, Okyinso Amanfrom and Twumwusu were to benefit from a similar project and the road from Okyinso through Abenaso to Kwaman would soon be improved.
He said the road from Ntronang through Atobriso to Larbikrom, from Adankrono to Pramkese and from Pramkese to Takyiman would also be upgraded.
The Abenasohene, Etwienana Barima Amoakwatia II thanked his people for their voluntary financial contributions and government for listening to their plight and said the water project would relieve them of their water challenges.
He said what the people now needed most was a communication connections, since it was almost impossible to use a mobile phone in the town.
The chief called for equipment for the CHPS compound and accommodation for the nurse manning the facility.
