The Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Projects (SEHP), a non-profit organization, has donated about 176 boxes of hand sanitizers to seven senior high schools in the Upper East Region.
The schools include; the Bolgatanga Girls’ Senior High School (BOGISS), Navrongo Senior High School (NAVASCO), Bawku Senior High Technical School (BAWSECTEC), Gowrie Senior High Technical School, Zuarungu Senior High School (ZUSEC), Tempane Senior High School and Our Lady of Lourdes (OLL) Girls’ Senior High School.
Miss Hafizatu Abdul-Karim, Personal Assistant to Mrs Samira Bawumia, the Second Lady, at a brief ceremony, said the move was to promote personal hygiene and to reduce diseases like cholera and the influenza among students in the region.
She said it was a pilot programme targeted at every Senior High School in the country, “we know in Secondary Schools, not all of them have access to water for a quick wash before going to the dining hall,” she said.
She said if students have hand sanitizers with them, it would help in reducing many disease conditions associated with poor personal hygiene.
“It is more of how you keep yourself, so we decided to give some hand sanitizers to control the situation in affected schools and even other schools that were not affected”, she added.
Madam Patricia Ayikor, the Upper East Regional Director of Education, receiving the items, through Mr Rockson Ayine Bukari, the Upper East Regional Minister, thanked the Second lady for the gesture.
