He, therefore, urged the youth to take advantage of the “Planting for Food and Jobs” programme by the Government to go into vegetable cultivation to create employment to better their lot.

The Government should also assist the town to complete an irrigation project started during Former President Mahama’s administration to ensure a year round vegetable production in the area, he said.

Osagyefo Edu made the call at a colourful durbar to climax the Mankessim Akwambo Festival on Saturday. The festival attracted a large number of people from all walks of life who were treated to an exciting mix of culture and fun-filled events.

The Omanhen commended the Government for the various development initiatives it has introduced and urged the citizenry to take advantage of them to improve their living conditions.

He urged citizens of the area to endeavour to contribute positively towards the area’s development, especially by supporting the Mankessim Development Fund. Osagyefo Edu appealed to the Government and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to provide the Mankessim Senior High School with more boarding facilities and computers to improve academic performance.

He said Mankessim was well positioned and ready to collaborate with the Government in the implementation of its industrial, educational and agricultural initiatives. Mr Ekow Quansah Hayford, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Mfantseman, reiterated government’s commitment to ensuring the development of Mfantseman and the entire nation.

He said the Government was working vigorously to fulfill all campaign promises for every Ghanaian to live in peace and prosperity. He assured the Omanhen and the people that the Mankessim SHS would benefit from the supply of school buses and some educational materials by the Government in the coming weeks.

He indicated that his outfit, in collaboration with a Canadian Non-Governmental Organisation, was organising vocational and technical skills training for the youth and urged those in the area to participate fully. Mr Kenneth Kelly Essuman, the Mfantseman Municipal Chief Executive, said the Assembly had put in place bye-laws aimed at reducing teenage pregnancy and child marriages in the Municipality and admonished parents to take absolute responsibility of their children.
