The beneficiaries were taken through practical training in mining equipment operations and general mine safety.Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Mr Robert Siaw, the Sustainable Development Manager, said an amount of GHC 368,038.64 was spent on the training programme, adding that this year, thirty more people would be trained.

He said the engagement process has already begun in their respective communities and applications are open for interested people to apply.The sustainable development manager urged more women to take advantage of the training programme to enable them become employable.

Mr Siaw said the training was not a sequel for employment in Goldfields, Tarkwa mine, but to provide them with the opportunity to be eligible for employment wherever there were opportunities.This, he said, was because as a mine they continue to re-engineer their operation in order to stay in business due to persistence of inputs cost pressures and volatility of the gold price at the international market.

Mr Siaw said this has reduced their capacity to employ adding that "Goldfields is working with government and likeminded institutions including non-governmental organization to develop innovative ways for the youth to generate jobs ".The company also presented four Yamaha motor bikes worth GHC 36,694.27 to the Municipal and District Directorate of Education in Tarkwa and Bogoso.
