He said the fast should redefine their faith in Allah and position them to be able to contribute positively towards the country's developmental agenda.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Simon Osei-Mensah, who read a speech on behalf of the President, also presented assorted food items to the Muslim community at the Kumasi Central Mosque during last Friday's prayers.

The items, jointly presented by the minister and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), included 100 bags of rice, 50 boxes of Lipton tea and 50 bags of sugar.

Similar quantities of the items will be presented to Muslims in all the 47 constituencies in the region to support, in particular, the less privileged.

Development thrives on peace

President Akufo-Addo said the discipline exhibited during the one-month fast should impact the lives of all Muslims to champion peaceful coexistence and eschew violence.

He said development thrived on peace and that no investor would be willing to invest in an environment characterised by violence and anarchy.

The President called on all Muslim leaders and clerics to seize the opportunity of the fast to drum home the essence of peace and development to the Muslim faithful and advise them not to allow themselves to be used as a conduit for violence.
