Tuberculosis (TB) patients have been advised against self-medication and reliance on quack doctors for treatment.
They should rather report early to health facilities to receive free medical attention.
Madam Grace Dwomoh, Kumasi Metropolitan Education Officer of the Department of Community Development, who gave the advise said TB could be treated if detected early.
Madam Dwomoh was speaking at a meeting with members of the "Onuado Kuo" a benevolent society, at Pankrono Atafoa to educate them on the prevention and treatment of the disease.
She said TB was a communicable disease and not spread through witchcraft.
Madam Dwomoh noted that the only way to prevent infection was for people to keep clean surroundings and live in well-ventilated apartments.
She advised the members to encourage relatives and friends who coughed persistently for more than two weeks to report to hospital for check-up and seek early treatment if they were infected.
Elder Anthony Boakye, chairman of the club urged members to spread the message on the disease to enable people to seek early treatment.
