The Ablekuma South-West sub-Metro NCCE officers also used the occasion to educate the students on the mandate of the Commission and their duties as citizens.

    The visit to the school, which forms part of the Commissions first quarterly programmes for the year, was to educate the students on the promotion of peaceful co-existence and national cohesion, the role of the three arms of government in democracy, child’s right, and child marriage among others.

    A statement issued in Accra by Ms Druscilla Lartey, the Head of Programmes Ablekuma South-West sub Metro and copied to the Ghana News Agency, urged the students to be aware of the principles and objectives pertaining to the constitution as it was the fundamental law of the people.

    It encouraged the public to at all times defend the Constitution against all forms of abuses and violations.

    It explained that the Commission formulates, implement and oversee programmes intended to inculcate in the citizens of Ghana awareness of their civic rights and obligations as free people.

    Touching on the duties of a citizen, it stated that Ghana was a democratic nation with a constitution that guarantees and upholds the human rights and freedom as well as its obligations

    It said for a nation to develop and progress in her socio-political, economic and cultural determinations, the collective action of the citizens to stand up and deliver to their civic duties and live up to expectation was critically imperative.

   It therefore stated that it had been enshrined in the 1992 constitution Chapter six, Article 41, which provides the exercise and enjoyment of rights and freedom as inseparable from the performance of duties and obligations.

   The students were advised to work conscientiously in their lawfully chosen occupation to avoid and any bad situation.

   “Contribute to the well-being of the community by ensuing good environmental practices, do so with fairness and refrain from collecting money as a form of inducement should anyone fall foul to the law.”

   It urged the students to study hard to show themselves capable when their services were needed.
