The agitation of the new Takoradi community for the reconstruction of the road had paid off with a temporary levelling of the road to pave way for actual construction work to begin.
City officials together with management of the Takoradi Port quickly responded to the demonstrators by organising equipment to reshape the road before the end of Wednesday. Mr Anthony Kobina Kurentsir Sam, the Metropolitan Chief Executive and Captain Ebenezer Afedzi, the Director of Takoradi Port were on site to calm the demonstrators at about 1300 hours when the GNA visited the site on Wednesday.
The MCE mentioned that the reconstruction of the road had been put on tender and that pending all procurement regulations, it would be permanently fixed in the next four months. The angry demonstrators yesterday burnt lorry tyres at both ends of the road linking the Metropolis and other industries in the area to demand the reconstruction of the abandoned road.
The residents complained of dust, respiratory infections, miscarriages and ultimate closure of the only health facility in the area.
