He observed that effective transportation was critical in the movement of troops for peacekeeping operations, as well as goods and services hence the need for Ghana and US to build capacity to strengthen the transportation system.

General McDew gave the assurance in Accra when he led a delegation of the USTRANSCOM to pay a courtesy call on Mrs Cecilia Dapaah, the Aviation Minister.The visit was to explore ways of building a resilient air and maritime transportation system to avoid anti-terrorism threats at the ports within the ECOWAS sub region.

General McDew said USTRANSCOM was in charge of coordinating the logistics of moving people and cargo across the world in support of military operations.It’s committed to support Ghana to ensure effective distribution of goods and services across the continent, he said, adding that the US government would collaborate with the country to strategise to improve road safety and utilise the partnership between US and Ghana for mutual cooperation and benefits.

General Mcdew commended the country for celebrating its 60th anniversary and deploying troops to war torn countries to ensure peace and security. He classified Ghana as a model in Africa in terms of democratic processes and encouraged other African countries to emulate the country to deepen their democratic process.

Mrs Dapaah thanked the delegation for the visit, saying the gesture would ensure a continued partnership between the two countries because the country cannot deploy troop without effective transport system.

She said the two countries had had a fruitful cooperation in areas of education, governance among others and appealed for support to build the capacity of Ghanaian troop to improve the country’s transportation system.
