The Moremi Initiative a Women Leadership programme in Africa has launched an art competition and exposition to engage young men and adolescents to end incidence of HIV and AIDS in Ghana.
This is to heighten awareness and promote the advocacy and leadership of the youth on HIV/AIDS issues, challenges and reduce stigma and discrimination in an open dialogue. It is on the theme “Engaging Young Men and Adolescents to end HIV/AIDS.
Ms Georgina Ofori, In-charge of Communication speaking at the United Nations AIDS press conference in Accra for the “Zero Discrimination Day” said stigma and discrimination against persons with HIV and AIDS was critical hence the need for the competition to create the needed awareness.
She said boys and girls from 12 to 17 years and 18 and 25 years can participate in the competition with a deadline on April 7, 2017. All participants need to do an original art piece, paintings, drawings and sculptures, which should have an HIV/AIDS theme concerning young people, adolescent boys and girls and should also be submitted with a short one-paragraph description of the piece.
She said the pieces could be submitted directly at their office or sent through their registered mail (Moremi Initiative. She said winners would be selected for each age category and would receive special awards for their work and 25 selected art pieces for each category would be exhibited in on-going exhibitions across the country.
