The policy was a campaign promise made by the ruling government in the run-up to the 2016 general election to build a factory at each of the 275 districts in the country.

The sector Minister, Hajia Alima Mahama, said the review of the policy would also consider reforming rural development strategies to promote and ensure improved livelihood of the people.

Delegation

The minister announced this during a meeting with a two-member delegation from the Embassy of Switzerland at her office in Accra yesterday.

According to her, the new government is determined and focused on the agenda to solve the economic challenges confronting the nation.

The delegation included a Deputy to the Ambassador of Switzerland to Ghana, Mr Roland Fischer, and the Head of Cooperation at the Embassy of Switzerland, Mr Matthias Feldmann.

They discussed possible ways of deepening the relationship between Ghana and Switzerland.

They also touched on the issue of transportation and infrastructure development and how the government of Switzerland could support Ghana in those sectors.

Interventions

Hajia Mahama said the government would roll out several interventions to improve on the lives of the people.

She lauded the government of Switzerland for its contribution to Ghana’s development and added that “we intend to deepen our engagement in the coming years.”

Support

The Head of Cooperation at the Embassy of Switzerland, Mr Matthias Feldmann, said his government was willing to support Ghana attain its development goals.
He mentioned urban transportation in the Greater Accra Region as one of the areas they could assist.

“We are currently working with the districts in the Greater Accra Region to improve on the transportation system to ease the congestion in the capital,” Mr Feldmann said.

According to him, the Switzerland government is ready to renew its district development initiative with Ghana by supporting the establishment of more infrastructure in the country.

For his part, Mr Fischer thanked the government for the level of cooperation with the embassy over the past years.
