Teachers and Educational Workers Union has hailed government’s decision to implement free Senior High School (SHS) education effective September 2017 academic year. The Union however cautioned heads of institutions not to introduce illegal fees that would make ‘nonsense’of the free SHS policy.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Mr Augustine Sarkuur Karbu, General Secretary of TEWU said school management had a key role to play to ensure that the policy was successful. He said, “the caution of compromising quality education because it’s free SHS should not be allowed to triumph during implementation.
“All and sundry should embrace and support its implementations because the free SHS is a major policy initiative with huge implication for the government and stakeholders.” Mr Karbu urged students to works harder to justify the free SHS policy yet to be implemented in September 2017. He said, TEWU as a major stakeholder was in support of the policy initiative and urged all other stakeholders to support it for benefits of developing quality human resource for Ghana and the world at large.
