The Half-Assini Catholic Basic School in the Western Region has awarded a total of 11 pupils of the school who excelled in their academic work in the 2016/2017 academic year.
They are Janet Ewireko and Lily Emu, at the Kindergarten (KG) Level, Benedicta Antwi, Francis Erzoah Kwaw, Emmanuel Arvo, Agnes Sergu, Abigail Abam and Simon Ackah, at Primary School Level.
At the JHS Level Alex Anondo, Emmanuel Asiedu and Jamilah Salam were also awarded.
They were presented with parcels of Exercise Books each at a durbar held as part of activities to mark this year's "Catholic Education Week" celebration at the School. The weeklong programme organized by the Regional Catholic Secretariat was under the theme “Catholic Education: Formation for Transformation". In an address the Headmaster of the school, Mr Emmanuel Nyankey, expressed concern about the fast deterioration of the School's roof which according to him was renovated in 2013.
He said the school which is the Alma mater of Ghana's First President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, was renovated in 2013 with funds from GET-FUND but leaks seriously. According to the Headmaster, the structure looked beautiful from outside but was otherwise when one got closer. He said the school also lacked desks thus compelling the school authorities to pair the children sometimes.
He therefore appealed to the Government, "Old Boys" and stakeholders of the School to come to the aid of the School to enhance quality education. Other activities to celebrate the week include, Clean Up exercise, Route March, Quiz Competition and Church Service".
