The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has intensified fire safety education in the Ashanti Region to help significantly reduce fire disasters. As part of this, the firefighters went on a float in Kumasi on Wednesday – distributed fliers and used loud speakers to educate the people on fire prevention.
Some of them held placards, carrying messages like “Avoid misusing naked fires”, “Avoid poor electrical installation and wiring”, “Don’t start bushfires”, “Stop overloading electrical outlets”, and “Avoid placing combustibles close to ignition sources”.
The Regional Fire Officer, Mr. Semekor Fiadzo, said they were determined to go to every length to aid the people to do the right things to protect lives and property. He said they had been making good progress and that fire cases were on the decline in the region – down by about 60 per cent. Deputy Chief Fire Officer (DCFO0 Fiadzo said they would continue to work hard and take the necessary measures to prevent fires.
He noted that some of the fire incidents were preventable and asked everybody to overcome negligence and to heed safety education.
