Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene on Thursday officially informed the Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC) of the installation of Nana Ama Konadu as the new Asantehemaa. This was at its meeting held at the Manhyia Palace and coincided with the celebration of 80 days of the death of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Afua Kobi Serwaah Ampem II.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu told the Council that the Queen would be introduced in person to the members after completing all the necessary customary rites. Nana Konadu, 83, is a biological sister of the Asantehene and succeeds her deceased mother, who reigned for 39 years.
Her stool name would be known within 40 days.
The decision on who becomes the Asantehemaa rests exclusively with the Asantehene.
