The Takoradi Senior High School (TADISCO) has inaugurated a 12-member Board of Governors to have an oversight responsibility on the day to day administration of the school.
Members of the Board, who were sworn in by Angela Attache, a Magistrate’s Court Judge, was advised to discharge their duties in a meticulous manner to fulfill the vision and mission of the school.
They are Madam Benedict Nana Birney, a former Ghana Education Service Director General, Madam Anyone Affix Amajuba, Regional Director of Education, Mrs Elizabeth Kuok, Metro Director of Education, and Mrs Alberta Adjorlolo.
The rest are Mr Jacob Brown Yawson, an Engineer, Mr James Kazeh-Anfo, Mr Julius Mensah, Mr Edmond A. Bruce, Mr Hohn Davies, Squandron Leader Ebo Baiden RTD, Justice K. A. Acquaye and Mr Raymond Prosper Akpatse.
Mr Joseph Akwasi Bawuah, who chaired the programme, congratulated the board members and entreated them to have a second look at the vision and mission of the school and strategise to reflect the exigencies of the day.
Madam Enyonam Amafuga, the Western Regional Director of Education, charged the board members to share their rich experiences, strengths and connections to help develop the school.
She said: “Indeed you have been appointed at a time when second cycle institutions face numerous challenges”. She mentioned some of the challenges as indiscipline among students, downward trend in academic performance, occultism and inadequate supply of teaching and learning materials and urged the board to make those matters a priority.
Madam Amafuga said the board, in exercising its advisory role, must do so within the spirit and letter of the constitution to avoid friction between the Board and the school authorities. She called on the students to strive for excellence adding, “Nobody desires failure, but failure will come if you don’t plan well and work hard.”
Mr Edmond Ato Bruce, the Headmaster of the school, said the school was poised to achieve academic excellence, moral and extracurricular laurels and urged all stakeholders to help turn its fortunes around.
