Six people have been sentenced to fines totaling GH?1,000.00 by the Suhum Magistrate Court over breaches of environmental sanitation bye-laws of the municipal assembly.
They are Ansah Quaye, Emmanuel Boateng, Teacher Emmanuel, Daniel Oluma, Akosua Elizabeth and Simon Odei. They would each serve three months imprisonment should they fail to pay the fine.
They were arrested for indiscriminate dumping of refuse, overgrown backyard of weeds and failure to comply with the notice of abatement as directed by the environmental health department. All the six persons pleaded guilty when they appeared before the court presided over by Ms. Naomi Akyeanu.
Mr. Stephen Kwadwo Asante of the Municipal Environmental Health Department said the offences were detected during routine inspection visit to the Akorabo community, near Suhum, by environmental health inspectors.
The prosecution said when the attention of the convicts was drawn to the breaches, they grew offended and insulted the inspectors.
