A GHS289,000.00 classroom block built for the Akim-Asafo Senior High School (SHS) by MTN Ghana Foundation to create more space for effective academic work has been inaugurated at a ceremony.
The project comes with staff common room, furniture and a store.
Mr. Robert Kuzoe, MTN’s Senior Manager, Sustainability and Social Impact, said it had ended the situation where the students and their teachers were forced to hold classes under makeshift structures.
He underlined the vital role of education in socio-economic progress and said it was in recognition of this that it was providing strong support to education, health and economic empowerment.
The Foundation had over the past nine years invested about GHC22.2 million in these three priority areas, he added. Mr. Isaac Larbi, the Headmaster, hailed the project as a welcomed relief, saying, it would help to address the classroom congestion.
The school with a student population of 509, had only 12 classrooms, something, he indicated, created a lot of discomfort. He said but for the timely intervention by the Foundation, things would have become worse as it admitted refresh students.
