A GH¢5.5 million ultra-modern market complex is to be constructed at La, to serve the people in and around the communities of the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) in Accra.
It is scheduled to be completed within 18 months.
The project would see a replacement and expansion of the existing market into a three-storey building facility with two banking halls, 52 stores, 163 stalls, washrooms and other external works to beautify the environment.
It is being constructed by the China Railway Construction Engineering Group (CRCG) and supervised by the Architectural and Engineering Services Limited (AESL), with funding from the Internally Generated Fund (IGF), District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) and the District Development Fund (DDF).
In his address, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, said the project would lead to an overhaul of economic growth and trading activities in and around the municipality.
“The projects would boost economic growth, improve the living conditions of residents in and around the area and enhance the pursuit of our socio economic agenda,” he said.
The Regional Minister appealed to the business community around the area, especially the banks, to partner the assembly for undertake developmental projects.
The Municipal Chief Executive of LaDMA, Ms. Rita Odoley Sowah said due to the fast growing population in the area, the provision of a modern market complex became an indispensable element within the strategic framework of the assembly.
The facility, according to the MCE, is one of the provisions of critical social and infrastructural services that would provide immense benefits for the people in La and its surrounding communities.
She pleaded with the traders who have been relocated to temporary structures within the assembly to cooperate with the assembly and contractors in order to complete the work on time.
