Mike Leiter, head of the U.S. National Counter-terrorism Centre, is quitting after nearly five years at the post. The White House did not give a reason for Leiter's departure.
US President Barack Obama praised him as "a trusted advisor", who provided "in-depth understanding of terrorist activities that affect the country's security." Leiter became the head of the centre in 2007 under former president George W. Bush. As yet there is no word on who will replace Leiter.
