Residents of Winneba Low Cost area have appealed to the Government to construct proper drainage at the newly constructed District Hospital to avoid continued flooding in the area.
The Assembly Member for the area, Ms Elizabeth Awo Sena, made the appeal on their behalf after her first meeting with the electorate at Winneba on Tuesday.
Madam Senah said currently there was no direct drainage directing water and other health waste to convenient place from the Hospital.
She said this had led to flooding when it rains in most houses in the area, especially residents at blocks C and D.
Madam Sena said if nothing was done to the situation, the residents would continue to suffer.
She suggested a covered-drainage to be constructed from the hospital to the Ntafokom stream that leads to the sea.
Madam Sena said the Effutu Municipal Assembly could not pay for the cost of the construction of the drainage.
She expressed concern about the indiscriminate siting of kiosks along the sides of the road in the area and appealed to the Town and Country Planning Department to regulate the situation.
Madam Sena urged the people to pay their monthly contribution of GH¢5.0 towards the upkeep of the Community Watch Dog Committee to ensure regular night patrols.
The residents called for the construction of a new public place of convenience, since the current one has become a death trap.
