A circuit court in Accra on Wednesday adjourned to Monday May 16, the case involving the management of Fan Milk Ghana Limited and William Swason, a lawyer.
The accused was alleged to have defrauded the management of the company in the sum of GH¢450,000 being the cost of a parcel of land
located at Kaneshie First Light, belonging to Madam Mercy Obeng.
He had since repaid GH¢50,000 of the amount.
Police Superintendent Johnson Ganyo (Rtd) an employee of Fan Milk Ghana Limited, during cross-examination told the court presided over
by Mr Romaine Abele Abbey, that GH¢50 out of the GH¢50,000 paid was found to be fake.
He said attempts to retrieve the remaining amount from the accused had proved futile because he had withdrawn almost all the money in his account.
Sup. Ganyo (Rtd) said: “When we checked, he had issued 73 cheques to individuals, men and women and now has a little over GH¢80,000 left
in his account”.
Sometime in June 2009, the accused approached Mr Kwasi Attuah, Sales and Marketing Manager of Fan Milk Limited, over the parcel of
land being offered for sale by Madam Obeng.
Mr Attuah linked the accused with the Legal Department of Fan Milk and begun a sale process agreement after the management was sure that the land actually belonged to Madam Obeng.
A price of GH¢450,000 was agreed and the accused suggested that management should pay in two instalments of GH¢420,000 and GH¢30,000.
On June 18, 2009, two cheques of the amount were issued by the management to the accused.
After management had waited for a while for the accused to submit the legal documents covering the land and a signed document from Madam
Obeng, it conducted investigations during which Madam Obeng revealed that she had not authorised anyone to sell the parcel of land.
Further investigations revealed that the accused had used the money to purchase Griffonia seeds to be exported to China.
