The Odotobiri Rural Bank (ORB) has provided an 80 KV power generator to the St. Peter’s Hospital at Jacobu to guarantee an uninterrupted power supply to the hospital.
The bank funded the installation of the generator at GH ¢ 2, 000, 00. Additionally, the bank has again presented a cheque for GH ¢ 2,000.00 to enable the hospital authorities to extend electricity to other departments of the hospital.
Making the presentation, Mr. Johnny Owusu-Boadi, the Board Chairman, said the bank was committed to its social responsibilities, especially in the areas of health and education.
“The bank believes that it is only through good health, quality education and the availability of efficient social services that can help our people to develop,” he said.
He said the bank contributed GH ¢ 10, 000.00 towards the Jacobu mechanized water supply system and awarded scholarships to over 50 brilliant but needy students.
“Currently, the bank is financing the construction of a community centre complex for the Jacobu community at an initial cost of GH ¢ 250, 000. 00,” Mr. Owusu-Boadi added.
On his part, Mr. S. B. Ahmed, the General Manager, said the bank would continue to indentify itself with the development of its operational area to enable the people to enjoy the fruits of the bank.
He said over the years, the bank had supported the organization of best teacher awards at Obuasi, Bekwai and Kumasi.
Mr. Emmanuel Ofosu Appenteng, the Administrator at the Hospital, said the hospital faced serious problems during power outages, especially with operations at the theatre.
He commended the bank for the gesture, saying, “the generosity of the bank yielded positive results as two emergency cases were addressed a few days after the donation of the generator.”
Mr. Appenteng said the additional support would help them connect electricity to other departments to help reduce mortality rate, adding, “we are here to save lives”.
Madam Paulina Priscilla Opei, the Matron at the hospital, who received the cheque, said the hospital intended to construct a modern maternity block to give quality services to pregnant women.
