His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI, Head of the Catholic Church, has appointed the Reverend Father Alfred Agyenta as the new Bishop of the Navrongo Bolgatanga Diocese.
Archbishop Leon Kalenga, Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, who made the announcement at a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, said the choice of Rev Father Agyenta as bishop was not because he was from thearea.
“We are preaching Jesus Christ not tribes,” he said.
Archbishop Kalenga appealed to members of the diocese to unite and support the new bishop to carry out his duties well, saying “The church is one family.”

The new Bishop would succeed the late Most Reverend Lucas Abadamloora, who passed away on December 23, 2009.
