Mrs Betty Mould-Iddrisu, Minister of Education, has called on teachers to develop disciplinary
skills needed to imbue good morals in children for effective academic work in schools.
She said Ghana’s education would only develop smoothly if there was discipline in schools, and noted that violence and injustice destroyed academic excellence.
Mrs Mould-Iddrisu, who said this in a speech read on her behalf by Mr Stephen Aidoo, Deputy Director General of Education, said with a
collective responsibility, discipline could prevail in schools for the development of the youth.
She said this during the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Navrongo Senior High School at Navrongo in the Upper East Region at the weekend.
Mrs Mould-Iddrisu said the Government was committed to ensuring that all children had access to quality education to prepare them for the future.
She noted that the role of the teacher was very paramount in the development of the country and that teachers should exercise patience
to enable Government to address their concerns including the recent problem that arose after their migration onto the Single Spine Salary
Structure (SSSS).
Mrs Mould-Iddrisu asked students not to always take the law into their hands, but address their grievances in a lawful manner.
Mr John Dramani Mahama, Vice President, in a speech read on his behalf by Lieutenant General Joseph Henry Smith (rtd), Minister of Defence, called on students to take their studies seriously in order to contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.
He called on the school to revamp the study of agricultural science by de-silting the school’s irrigation dam.
Vice President Mahama reiterated Government’s commitment to investing more in education and promised to provide the Navrongo SHS with an ultra modern ICT centre.
The Headmaster of the school, Mr Patrick Tamgbamyire appealed to the Government to construct a fence for the school and provide accommodation for both students and staff.
