The chief of Sefwi Atronsu, Nana Kwame Nuru Akyeamfoo II, has said it was important that the educational opportunities available to Ghanaian students lead them to excel.
He said this at a career day organised by the Guidance and Counselling Department of the Saint Augustine’s Senior High School at Bogoso over the weekend.
Nana Kwame Nuru Akyeamfoo, who is also the headmaster of the school, said it was sad that many students had been unable to take advantage of the many opportunities that could transform their destinies.
Among the topics treated at the career day included Nursing, Banking, Journalism, Agriculture, Auditing, admission requirements, employment opportunities and the requirements of the labour market.
He said the career day of the school started in 2006 when he assumed office as the headmaster and was aimed at assisting students to pursue careers and programmes that they had no knowledge about.
Mr. Joseph Y. Aidoo, the Assistant Headmaster, said the school started in 1957 as part of the Saint Augustine’s College but was separated in 1973 and made a Senior High School.
He said the school currently has a total population of 1,059 students with 55 teachers.
Mr. Aidoo said the lack of accommodation for the students and teachers and an assembly hall makes it difficult for the school to meet during the rainy season.
He added that neither has the lack of an infirmary and library affected the academic work of the school.
