The management of Millicom Ghana, operators of Tigo telecommunication service, in collaboration with the management of United Way Ghana, an NGO on Tuesday handed over a rehabilitated six storey classroom block estimated at GH¢20,000 to authorities of Nima Cluster of Schools in Accra.
Ms Ivy Owusu-Asamoah, Category Executive of Millicom Ghana, said education was key in nation building and that the project was their contribution to support communities to improve their living standards.
She explained that the project was undertaken because a congenial atmosphere had an impact on the education and development of children, the nation’s future leaders.
Ms Owusu-Asamoah said under the company’s corporate social responsibility, management had supported communities and improved the living standards in some communities, as well as the
construction and refurbishment of school buildings, providing maternal and child health facilities, in addition to the provision of
potable water.
Mr Jonathan Kwamoah, Executive Director of United Way Ghana, pledged their commitment to assist other schools nation- wide.
Major Dr Mustapha Ahmed (Rtd), Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East commended the management for their assistance and pledged that an on-going Information Communication Technology
project at the school would be completed soon.
Mrs Monica Obu-Cann, Headmistress of the school, expressed appreciation for the assistance, as well as the authorities of Trinity Baptist Church from the United States who painted some parts of the school block last year.
She said the school block was built in the late 1960’s and since then no major rehabilitation had taken place until last year.
