Kori Youth Association (KOYA), an Accra and Tema based association of people from Kori in the Builsa District, on Wenesday cut a sod for a Nutrition Centre and a Day Care Centre for Akag Primary School in Kori as part of development projects planned for the area.
Mr George Abavelim, the chairman of KOYA branch in Tema, said the association, which was inaugurated 13 years ago, aimed to promote self help projects and to assist the Kori community in
education, health and development projects.
He said funds for the Nutrition Centre that comprises three rooms, store, kitchen, toilet and bathroom and the Primary School were obtained through a fund raising ceremony held by the
association members where its cloth was launched.
“We are not oblivious of the fact that there is competing demand for scarce resources available to the government and the district
assembly”, he said.
He stated KOYA’s preparedness and determination to collaborate with all Builsa area youth associations to start a common fund to support brilliant but needy students in the area to further their education and expressed the hope that the Builsa Assembly would be prepared to support.
Mr Abavelim said past activities of the association included the cladding of two pavilions of six classrooms to house the Kori
Primary School as part of their commitment to provide suitable accommodation for the school and encourage school enrolment.
Mr. Dennis An-Kang Abasiwe, the Assemblyman-elect of the area, appealed to the District Assembly to construct the roads to the
area from Sandema through Kanaasa, Alab-yeri to Katuesa.
He also called for the construction of staff quarters for Alab-yeri and Akag-yeri schools and a CHIP centre for Akag-yeri since the present one was not accessible to the people of Kori due to the distance.
He appealed to the Electoral Commission (EC) to consider creating additional two electoral areas in addition to the existing one which is too large.
Mr. Norbert Awulley, District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area, congratulated KOYA for the initiative taken in bringing development
to the Builsa area.
